About Dipole Dynamics

"If the audio market is already so crowded, why bother?"

Our Mission

We aim to provide the best customer and audio playback experience with atypical dipole speaker designs, where performance and craftsmanship are not subject to the constraints of "bean counters" or corporate influences.

Bespoke Experience

We offer the options of choosing one of our turn key solutions, personalizing our designs, such as colour, frequency response, passive and/or electronic crossover designs, powered bass section, "internal" wiring, crossover components, connectors, etc., or take the full custom route by letting us build your own twisted design.

Why Dipole?

At Dipole Dynamics we like dipole speakers, like, really, really like them, and we like them enough to make dipoles our whole “raison d’être”.

To better explain the why, what follows is a bit of an overly simplified theory on the subject. Therefore, pick your favorite adult beverage, and be prepared to be amazed by our capability to screw up what AI can probably do better.

Dipole = Open Baffle

Otherwise known as open baffle speakers, dipole speakers derive their name from the fact that the polar response of such speakers consists of two lobes, with equal radiation forwards and backwards (a.k.a., dipole), with the sound waves 180 degrees out of phase to each other, and with none perpendicular to the axis.

At its simplest form, a dipole speaker consists of a loudspeaker driver mounted on a flat panel and pointing the business end towards the listener.

Benefits

When well executed, and care is given to speaker placement in your listening space, dipole speakers are magical, they excel at creating a diffuse and enveloping soundstage.

Rather than pinpointing specific sounds, dipole speakers generate a spacious, natural, and ambient soundstage, with little to no direct reflections from the sides of the room, thus useful in reducing the stimulation of resonant room modes, especially at low frequencies.

Dipole speakers also result in high frequencies being reflected from any rear wall, which can enhance the naturalness of the sound in typical listening rooms by creating more diffuse reverberations.

Limitations

Like all good things in life, it is not all pixies riding unicorns over rainbows while eating sugar coated dreams, and dipole speakers also have their own limitations and drawbacks.

Typically, dipole speakers are less efficient because, for the same loudspeaker driver, a dipole speaker results in less sound pressure level than a sealed or ported enclosure, and their placement in the listening space, especially the distance between the speaker and the rear wall has a greater impact on the soundstage depth and width.

Our Story

We could say that the people at Dipole Dynamics are visionaries looking to provide ground breaking, never seen before audio solutions, and all that type of nonsense, but the same laws of physics apply to everyone, including us.

Dipole Dynamics' story and that of its founder, an passionate named Denis, is a much simpler and modest one; he loves designing and making stuff (way, way too much stuff actually), he loves music, he is rarely satisfied by what is commercially available, and his wife would say that he suffers from a bit of perfectionism mixed in with "some" OCD!

1. The Audiophile

As a long time audiophile I, yes "I" as in singular (one man show here), I was left unsatisfied with the repetitive and corporate infused offerings where the illusions of value, performance, and quality literally hide behind pretty aesthetics, but where the core design goals are, as always, infinite growth and ever bigger profit margins at the expense of the product itself and the end user experience.

2. The Catalyst

The foundation that would eventually become Dipole Dynamics was laid in 2020; after experiencing firsthand the shortcomings of the audio industry for over 15 years, I realized just how "made to a price point" is amongst the greatest evil of the audio industry, and I did what had to be done, I went on a learning journey, got smart on the subject, and fixed the design flaws of my then speakers.

3. The Yearning

My firsthand experience at upgrading speakers and building multiple pairs of open baffle's left me yearning for something better from the audio industry; that connection where we would go to the old masters, see, touch, and smell the honest workshops where artisans toiled at perfecting their craft, and where the customer became a part of the history of the business, not just numbers on quarterly earnings report.

4. The Creation

Stemming from my years of experience in conception, design, and manufacturing, from aerospace components, to motorsports, Dipole Dynamics was established to support you, my fellow audiophiles, in your own personal music playback journey with honest and performance driven offerings at all price points. Volume is not our goal, but the human connection that goes into making someone's audio dreams a reality.

H5510

Code Name: "Raw Dog"

Raw Dog?!?  Few things in life are better than living in the moment, experiencing raw emotions, with a bit of risk in the background, just like the experiences of starting an audio company.  At the time, we thought it was a fitting name for our first official project!

As our first foray into the audio market, and as much as we love speakers that deliver a full range dipole polar response, such as our flagship Silver Fox speaker (16 Hz - 35 kHz), we strived to hit that perfect balance of real world performance versus cost without compromising the basics of what makes a great speaker, thus was born the H5510 hybrid open baffle speaker.

The H5510 Design

Expertly integrating dipole high and midrange sections with a bass reflex low end section, the H5510 hybrid open baffle speaker provides all the critical benefits of dipole polar response like a natural, and ambient soundstage, with typical in-room bass response of 25 Hz, easier speaker placement, and without sacrificing the sensitivity.

The 3 way design allows Dipole Dynamics to choose and optimize the drivers selected for each of the sections resulting in a seamless integration, good directivity, and a coherent and near single point-source presentation.

The H5510 is equipped with both front and rear facing tweeters, and open back midrange drivers with rear phase plugs for an excellent dipole response from 100 Hz, the bass reflex cabinet is designed to self-cancel standing waves, and is combined with low noise variable geometry flared cabinet port tubes, all the design elements have been meticulously chosen to provide a great listening experience at great value.
